Ice bowls last for over an hour in the shade

Step-by-step

Materials:

  • l large glass bowl
  • 1 small glass bowl (about 1 1/4 inch smaller than large bowl)
  • assorted flowers or fruit (sliced lemon, oranges if used) or any nontoxic plant can beused
  • milk or food coloring (for frosted effect)
  • adhesive tape

Step 1

Place the smaller bowl inside the larger one. Half fill the outer bowl with water, adding a little milk or food coloring for a frosted effect.

Step 2

Gently fill the inner bowl with water so that is sinks to the same level as the outer bowl. Hold it straight in a central position, and secure with adhesive tape.

Step 3

Wedge nontoxic plant material into the water. Freeze for at least 8 hours. To release, pour cold into the inner bowl, and partially submerge the outer bowl in cold, never warm, water. After a minute, ease the ice bowl free.
